Modern Ethnic Fashion Show Gala (MODEFA) Receives Award From the City and County of San Francisco!
On July 9, 2016, the city of San Francisco hosted, for the third year running, the Modern Ethnic Fashion Show Gala (#MODEFA). The event took place at the SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco, California. The one-day, cross-cultural event showcased a mix of fashion runway, live music, comedy, exhibitions, art auction, guest speakers and more.
This year's event was produced by Fely Tchaco of Fely Productions and Devi Raman, both models and artists, based in the San Francisco bay area. They came together under one common goal: to promote women minority artists and celebrate cultural diversity and global peace through art, music and fashion.
MODEFA is an annual fundraising gala reception for the African Arts Academy, a program dedicated in the teaching of arts and crafts originating in the African diaspora. The main goal of the event is to celebrate cultural diversity, encourage global peace, as well as promote minority women artists. The African Arts Academy is fiscally sponsored by the San Francisco African American Historical and Cultural Society, represented by Al Williams.
The evening was filled with laughter by comedian Danny Dechie; beautiful stage décor by Yuri Sheller and special lighting by Khader Keileh; awesome music featuring Mazella Houston and international guest star, singer-songwriter, Gautier Vellisaris, who flew specially from Greece to take part of the event; West African music master Yacine Badian Kouyate; Flamenco guitarist Freddy Clarke and his band, Wobbly World; Maya Mathan and Fely Tchaco.
Supervisor of District 10 of San Francisco, Malia Cohen, was the honored guest of the evening. Cohen surprised the production team during her speech, with an award of a certificate of Honor and Merit on behalf of the City and County of San Francisco for doing such a wonderful job in promoting art and culture to celebrate peace and cultural diversity.

The fashion show segment opening honored Native American culture and featured incredibly talented designers and runway models from cultures such as Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, Native American, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Many of the designs were inspired by traditional and ancient ideas to fit our modern lifestyle - it was just beautiful!
The #MODEFA2016 model coordinator was Antonio Vaughn, hair and makeup team was led by Arlanza Lewis II, and included Jansen Wun and Karol Morales, supported by Messay Wondi Cosmo.
One of the designers who caught attention while dressing the production team, Fely and Devi, is Deepika Rao, an up-and-coming star to look out for in the fashion industry. #MODEFA2016 is honored to be the first fashion event where Deepika Rao launched for the first time her clothing line, Deefusion.
